There are people who use a lot of hockey ‘terms/language’ but have no idea what it means. So that’s what I’m going to write about today just because why not.
The most commonly used when people have no clue what it means:
FERDA: means ‘for da boys/girls’ or for the team
Then there are just all the other ones that us hockey people use, and people think were crazy saying this stuff.
CHIRP: a chirp is a comeback, when one team is arguing back and forth with the other throwing ‘chirps’ or trash talking.
BENDER: a bender is someone who bends at the ankles, most likely the team’s bench warmer.
BENCH WARMER: this person is called ‘the bench warmer’ because they are always sitting on the bench not getting much playing time. Warming it up for other players.
DUSTER: this player is another one of those ‘bench warming players’ collecting dust on the bench waiting for their ice time.
TENDY: is the goal tender or goal keeper of the net. The one who stops all the snipes by wind milling
SNIPE: a snipe is a very hard accurate shot on net, one that scores a goal by picking your corners. Going top shelf.
TOP SHELF: this is the very top area of the net “topo shelf where momma hides the cookies”
